About this printable
Before a child can read a word, the eye has to pick one letter out of a crowd of similar shapes. That skill is called visual discrimination, and it is the reason b, d, p and q cause so much trouble in year one. These hidden letter sheets train it directly. Each page fills a grid with letters and asks the child to find and colour every one that matches the target, with deliberate distractors chosen because they look alike rather than at random.
There is one page per letter, so a letter of the week routine has a ready made Friday activity. Difficulty rises through the pack: early pages use large letters in one font with few distractors, later pages mix three fonts, upper and lower case together, and rotated letters. A counting box at the foot of each page asks how many were found, which turns the sheet into a self check and gives an adult a quick score without marking. Three bonus pages target the b, d, p and q confusion on its own.
Pages print at A4 and US Letter, greyscale friendly, on plain paper. Laminate for dry wipe use or print fresh copies. Personal and single classroom use is licensed; resale and redistribution are not allowed.

Plain paper is fine for worksheets; use 160-300 gsm card for anything you plan to cut out, and laminate or slide pages into a wallet when they need to survive a dry-wipe pen.

Do flashcards need special paper?
