About this printable

A child learns to write a name long before the rest of the alphabet, because the name is the word that matters most. In these name tracing worksheets a grown-up writes the child's name over the yellow highlighter rows, the child traces it, then writes it alone on the guide lines, with green start dots and arrows showing where to begin. An editable Word starter is included as well: one Find and Replace puts a name on each of its five pages, in any font you have installed.

The 18 layouts (six each for a first name, a first and last name, and a long two-line name) each do a different job: giant letters for age 3-4, big letters with a letter count, school-size lines, capital letters, first letter first, and a big-to-small ladder. Extra pages turn the name into activities: rainbow writing in five colours, a build the name letter strip to cut and glue, a name puzzle strip, a find and colour the letters of my name page, and a certificate for the day a child writes it unaided.

Plain paper is fine for worksheets; use 160-300 gsm card for anything you plan to cut out, and laminate or slide pages into a wallet when they need to survive a dry-wipe pen.
