About this printable

Every one of these science experiment cards for kids uses things already in a kitchen cupboard: baking soda, vinegar, salt, food colouring, string, paper, a torch and a few coins. No lab kit, no ordering, no waiting. That makes the set useful for a rainy Saturday, a homeschool science block, a holiday club, or the last twenty minutes of a Friday lesson when the plan has fallen apart.

The 30 cards are grouped into chemistry, physics, water and air, and plants and living things. Each card lists what you need, gives numbered steps in child sized language, leaves a prediction box to fill in before starting, and finishes with a short why it happens paragraph an adult can read aloud or a confident nine year old can read alone. Difficulty and mess level are marked on every card, so you can pick a two minute demonstration or a half hour investigation on purpose. Matching record sheets turn any card into a written science write up with a hypothesis, an observation and a conclusion.

Plain paper is fine for worksheets; use 160-300 gsm card for anything you plan to cut out, and laminate or slide pages into a wallet when they need to survive a dry-wipe pen.
